Acting Chief Medical Director of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Dr Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe has described as untrue and unsubstantiated, the allegations by its resident doctors that they have been on 25 percent salaries.

This follows the statements by president of the hospital’s chapter of Association of Resident Doctors, Dr Ado Ahmed, that they have been collecting only 25 per cent of their salaries for some time now.

In an interview with The Guardian at his office, the CMD debunked the claim, disclosing that all doctors in the hospital have been receiving their full salaries without any reduction whatsoever.

“They receive hundred percent salary. May be what they are referring to is not their salary, but the payment of skipping, which is enjoyed mostly by junior doctors. It is simply part of an ongoing issue in the salary structure, which has been going on for about three years now,” he said.

He explained that in August 2015, there was an agreement reached between the hospital management and doctors, due to an intervention by the National Assembly, through the delegation of House of Representatives, under the leadership of Magaji Dau Aliyu and other members of the House.

“It was agreed at that meeting, due to the then looming doctors strike that the strike would only end by meeting the demands of their association within the available resources of the hospital,” he said.
