Akwa Ibom government challenges Akpabio on Four Points by Sheraton
In a release by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Charles Udoh, in Uyo yesterday, the Udom Emmanuel-led administration alleged that the publications in some national newspapers (excluding The Guardian) were full of falsehood.
Entitled ‘Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene: Who Is Lying’, the commissioner stated that it was necessary for the current government to set the records straight, to guide the public.
“It has become necessary for the public to know who is telling a lie, and we feel obligated to state as follows: that the immediate past governor commissioned the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, Ikot Ekpene, without a signed franchise agreement and full complement of requisite furniture and fittings.
“Ninety-five per cent of the total contract sum was approved and disbursed by the immediate past governor as building and site improvement cost.
The worldwide standard for building and site improvement cost component of a full-service four-star hotel in an emerging market is 64 per cent of the total cost – Hospitality Valuation Services (HVS).
“We challenge the immediate past governor to validate his claims of having fulfilled the requisite contractual obligations with Starwood Hotels & Resorts for the Four Points by Sheraton franchise by publishing a copy of the signed management agreement,” Udoh stated.
The government further challenged the former governor to let the public know those connected to the building of the hotel such as the signatories and the witnesses to the transaction.
