THE Lagos State government has distributed over 49 electricity transformers to rural communities in Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu and Ibeju-Lekki Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas of the state.

This is in fulfillment of the administration’s commitment to ensure that everyone feels the impact of government.

After handing over the transformers to the communities, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr. Jafar Sanuth noted that the transformers would reduce the problem of unsteady power supply that has crumbled businesses and had made life unbearable for the residents, most especially in the rural communities.

He said the action is part of the governor’s inaugural pledge, “to run a government that will implement programmes that will make life more meaningful, easier and happier for our people. Today, the state government is handing over these transformers as a demonstration to that pledge and these 49 transformers will be installed and connected to the national grid within the next two weeks.”

Sanuth stated that the distribution marks the first phase, noting that the second phase will involve the procurement and installation of over 50 transformers, which would be distributed to other rural communities, adding that it would improve power supply, create enabling environment for job creation and reduce the problem of rural-urban migration.

He disclosed that this would also create employment for unemployed youths in the areas, as small-scale businesses can now function properly. “With the provision of the transformers to these communities, it will improve the economy of the communities, especially those who depend solely on power supply as the only means of their livelihood.”

In his own remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Affairs, Alhaji Tajudeen Quadri thanked the governor for the kind gesture, ”the quest to reach every nook and cranny of the state brought out the ingenuity of the governor to present these 49 transformers to improve our rural communities.”

He therefore assured that the transformers would be used judiciously and guided jealously from vandals.

A resident of Okun Oniyanrin, Mr. Femi Ogunade, whose community received one of the transformers, commended the Ambode administration’s gesture. He noted that new transformer would improve their lives and also the security situation in the community.
