Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola says he is ready to conduct election into all the 30 local councils and the local council development areas recently created by his administration.

Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Governor State of Osun.

Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola says he is ready to conduct election into all the 30 local councils and the local council development areas recently created by his administration.

He gave the hint yesterday in Osogbo, the state capital, at a seminar on information management and dissemination organised for information officers in the councils across the state.

The governor, who said the debt-profile of the state was still within the management capacity of the state in view of the long gestation period of 20 years agreed with creditors, said political players should gear up for local council polls before the end of the year.

The state government has repeatedly blamed its inability to conduct the election on a pending litigation initiated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Aregbesola said despite the hue and cry by various stakeholders on the debt portfolio of the state, his administration was still able to ensure security, development of roads and school infrastructure across the state.

Those who know next to nothing about Osun’s debt profile and are just looking for something to keep them angry at Aregbesola for defying the odds to become the choice of the people in the state will continue to sing about how high Osun’s debts are without considering the period the government had agreed as per repayment and the massive infrastructure being invested on in Osun. What these mean is that a number of years from now, Osun will be far more advanced than many states because of the rapid developments and hence, will be far more capable to afford the repayments of these loans. This is classic financial management that Aregbesola has used to move the state from zero where the PDP left it to where it is today. Kudos to the Osun government under Aregbesola.

As i will always say, the Governor has done so much for the State of Osun in the best way he can and whether they like it or not he is being appreciated by many if not all, both within and across the state. No man is perfect and so he cannot be discredited or condemned just because of the debt-profile of the state which to an extent he has been able to manage things appropriately in other areas especially in the academic sector and infrastructural development.
