A group, Arewa Citizens Action for Change (ACAC), has lamented the present recession, saying it has seriously cast an aspersion on the northern presidency under President Muhammadu Buhari.

“To epitomise the culture of the North and show our displease on the manner President Buhari is handling this country, we give a 10-day ultimatum to the Northern Elders Forum and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to rise to the occasion to deliberate on how to salvage the country from the present political and economic challenges facing Nigerians,” it stated.

In a statement issued by its chairman, Malam Sani Mahmud Darma in Kaduna, the northern group ‎noted that the present administration under President Buhari emerged in the midst of multifarious challenges.

He said: “These challenges are multi-national and multi-dimensional. The government has enormous responsibility to tackle these challenges, at least, to justify the support of the public, especially the lower segment of the population. The expectations of Nigerians and indeed the global world remain high on the government.

The group, which commended Buhari’s administration for its determination to curb the Boko Haram menace and other security challenges, added: “The change mantra is perceived by many to mean another form of a ploy envisaged at creating poverty and economic hardship on the people. The situation of the economy is extremely alarming and unbearable.

“The inability of the government to address the economic woes bedeviling the country is a thing of great concern. The enthusiasm of the people on the government is geometrically declining.

“This deteriorating predicament of our economy and the body polity raises serious doubt on the credibility of all those that matter in the North.“The activities of the Niger Delta Avengers are causing more damage to our country than good. We believe in the rule of law. The government has to do everything lawful to curtail the nonsense. The government has to apply the hot and cold approach in addressing the activities of these groups.”

“The activities of the Avengers are affecting the fortunes of our economy and the existence of Nigeria as a nation. As we pray for the success of President Buhari’s administration, we would no longer fold our arms while things continue to unfold in abnormal shape.”
