Governor Godwin Obaseki has approved the deployment of 36 patrol vehicles to effectively secure all of the 18 council areas of Edo State.

At a stakeholders’ meeting yesterday in Uromi, headquarters of Esan North East Local Council where five persons were lost to herdsmen’s attacks at the weekend, the governor reiterated his earlier directive to security agencies to apprehend the assailants within seven days.

Accompanied by the Secretary to State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie, Chief of Staff, Government House, Taiwo Akerele and other top government officials, Obaseki visited families of the victims of the Ugboha attack where he condemned the action and promised that the state would spare no resources in fishing out the perpetrator for prosecution.

The fallen citizens were 17-year-old undergraduate of the state-owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Akhere Ojierakhi; a toddler and a secondary school student, Victor Momodu.

He pledged support to the families in their struggle to overcome the losses.

The visit was followed by a town hall security meeting in Ubiaja where the governor unveiled new measures to tackle the attacks.

The measures, according to him, include the overhaul of Operation Thunderstorm, the special taskforce, for fighting of violent crimes in the state.
A
ddressing elders from the senatorial district as well as women and representatives of the Hausa community and youths, Obaseki stated: “We will apprehend the people who committed this heinous crime and we shall prosecute them and bring them to justice.

“We are also deploying economic development initiatives to combat this crisis. With these initiatives that I have for this state and Esan land, I cannot allow these atrocious acts to persist.”
