The Executive Director, Obafemi Awolowo Foundation, Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, said the organisation has initiated ‘Awo Conversations.’ She said the initiative is part of its efforts to forester best characteristics leadership in the Nigerian youths. She disclosed this at a presentation to mark the 109 posthumous birthday anniversary of the founder of the defunct Action Group (AG), Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

According to her, one of the reasons for initiating the ‘Awo Conversation’ is to address the greatest challenges facing Nigeria, and, indeed, African countries, which has been generally recognised to be the dearth of leadership.

She said: “ In furtherance of the foundation’s leadership project, we believe that a clearer understanding and deeper knowledge of the Awo concept would assist new and aspiring leaders to chart the much-desired course to national development.

Awolowo-Dosunmu attributed most of the challenges confronting Nigerian youths to the faulty educational curricula, which, she said, had denied them the opportunity to learn about their nation’s history. “They have, as a result, been denied the opportunity to glean those lessons from the past that could be applied to the present in order to create a better future,” she said.
