Benue group wants Army to partner vigilance organisations

A group, the Benue Valley Initiative (BVI), has called for partnership between the Nigerian Army’s Operation Cat Race and local vigilance groups.

BVI Chairman, Oscar Aorabee, at a press conference in Makurdi, yesterday, said: “Rather than stereotype and criminalise local vigilance groups established by law, the Nigerian Army should collaborate with them, as it is in the North East, where local hunters are part of the Civilian Joint Task Force fighting Boko Haram.”

He urged the army deployed to the state to display a high level of professionalism in carrying out the operation, assist other security agencies in implementing the anti-open grazing law, and arrest persons involved in killings.
