Makarfi faction of PDP in Benue State has said it may seek alternative platform, if the Supreme Court fails to Rule in its favour. The faction’s Chairman, Mr. John Ngbede, made the declaration, yesterday, during the party’s special congress to receive former governor Gabriel Suswam in Makurdi. He lampooned Senator Modu Sheriff for deliberately taking steps to destabilise the party leadership at state level.

He said Modu Sheriff has no powers whatsoever to dissolve any state executive of the PDP, going by the Port Harcourt Appeal Court ruling, and regretted that a party that took several years to build was facing imminent collapse following the actions of those whom he said did not mean well for its sustained growth.

He said: “The provisions of the party constitution are also explicit on that issue, hence no single individual can on his own dissolve the party leadership in any state, let alone constitute another. So, anything to the contrary is an act of mischief and certainly unattainable.”

Also speaking on the issue, Suswam said whatever happens, the outcome of the suit will be to the benefit of all genuine members of the party.“I, therefore, urge PDP supporters and followers to desist from being bothered by the ongoing legal tussle, but remain calm and await the outcome. But you must be assured that no matter the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling, it will be a win-win situation for all lovers of the party.”
