Buhari removes Kachikwu as GMD of NNPC, appoints Baru as replacement
President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Dr Maikanti Kacalla Baru as the new group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), a move which signals the removal of Dr Ibe Kachikwu as the GMD of the state-owned oil corporation.
Kachikwu, however, is now the chairman, board of NNPC.
in a statement signed by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, the President also approved the composition of the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), as provided for under Section 1(2) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Act of 1997, as amended.
The new board is composed of the following:
A. Chairman-Dr Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum;
B. Group Managing Director- Dr Maikanti Kacalla Baru;
C. The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance; and
D. The following six persons:
1. Mallam Abba Kyari
2. Dr Thomas M.A John
3. Dr Pius O. Akinyelure
4. Dr Tajuddeen Umar
5. Mallam Mohammed Lawal, and
6. Mallam Yusuf Lawal.
President Buhari urges the new board to ensure the successful delivery of the mandate of the NNPC, ” and serve the nation by upholding the public trust placed on them in managing this critical national asset.”

Good move, is the composition of the board in line with the geopolitical system of the country?
But you just penned “Good Move”, so you comment without properly digesting and weighing all the options, be careful
we saw it coming since the day Kachikwu was appointed…it was temporary to appease the Niger Deltas then. Well this is rubbish as far as i am concerned. poor move

Once again bad move by the president;”You get what you measure!” Nigeria is made up of six Geo-political zones.
What else would you expect from a president who has shown a penchant for appointing his northern brothers into every available office. May we not be enslaved in our own country by people we assume are part of the same entity as we are.
Very soon, Nigerians will wake up one morning and hear that Nigeria is now “The Islamic Republic of Nigeria”. Just a matter of time!
This is like giving meat to a hyena and asking lions to share with him and report back to u, (the head of the lions)..
