Buhari congratulates Tony Elumelu at 55
President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, Mr. Tony Elumelu, on his 55th birthday today.
His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said in a statement yesterday.
Buhari joined the United Bank of Africa (UBA), the Tony Elumelu Foundation, the Elumelu family and all his professional colleagues for the attainment.
He commended the economist, consummate banker and successful entrepreneur, whose pacesetting antecedents have continued to inspire both the young and old on the power of ideas, big dreams and hard work.
The president also lauded Elumelu’s diligence, versatility and selflessness in championing the economic philosophy of “Africapitalism.”
He said this has called to action, the need to grow businesses that cater for African interests and support governments and bottom-up development within the continent.
He added that his approach is discouraging long-term dependence on donor countries and philanthropic organisations.
Buhari said the entrepreneur’s greatest investment has been in the development of people and communities, as clearly evident in the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
He said the Foundation, which started with scholarships and fellowships, now trains a new generation of business leaders across the continent.
The president prayed that the almighty God would grant him longer life, more ideas and renewed vigour to pursue his dream of making life better for others.
