Businessman appeals against conviction

A Lagos businessman, Ala Atubokiki Ibanibo, has filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal, Lagos praying the court to upturn his conviction by Justice Ibrahim Buba of the Federal High Court, Lagos.

The appellant said the learned trial judge erred in law when he convicted him for conspiracy to deal with or in petroleum product without licence.

Buba had on April 26, 2016 convicted the appellant on a three-count charge of dealing in petroleum product without a lawful authority or appropriate licence and unlawful storing of approximately 200 metric tons of petroleum product contrary to the provisions of Miscellaneous Offences Act and the Petroleum Act.

He was slammed with two years imprisonment with option of a N200, 000 fine on each of the three counts.
