Businessman arraigned for obtaining money under pretence

A Businessman, Lamidi Moruf was, this week, arraigned before Magistrate A.O Awogboro at Tinubu Magistrate Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N1.3 million under the pretence of selling a Toyota Corolla car.

The defendant, who has no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge bordering on obtaining and stealing of money preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, Chidi Okoye, a Superintended of Police, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence sometimes in February 2015, at Zenith Bank, in Campbell Street, Lagos Island.

He said that the defendant obtained the said sum from one Olusola Shenaike, under the pretence of selling a Toyota Corolla car to him, which he eventually did not do.

Okoye said that the offence is punishable under sections 312, (1) (b) and 285 (1) of the criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria 2011.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate Awogboro granted him bail in the sun of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned to June 2015.
