A health expert, Dr. Omobolade Obadofin, has warned parents to keep adequate watch over their daughters, whom she said could be at risk of contacting cancer or being infertile due to tendency to donate organs for financial gains.

Obadofin, a Consultant Pathologist at the Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Meta, Lagos made the revelation while speaking on Common Pathologies in Middle-aged Women during a Health and Wellness Workshop in Lagos organized by the Network of Enterprising Women Nigeria (NEWN).

The goal of the workshop was to educate women of the importance of optimal health/wellness. During the pathology session, Obadofin advised parents to keep watch over their wards, especially female children and query them if they find expensive handsets like iPhones or designer bags, the type used by high net worth individuals.

She said students in our tertiary institutions now engage in the donation for monetary gains their internal organs like fertility eggs and hormones in order to procure those expensive gadgets and clothing materials, not realizing that in that process of undergoing some form of medical examination, they could contact cancer or become infertile in future.

She also identified common diseases that lead to mortality in middle aged years namely breast cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, hypertension and diabetes.
