Cleric urges Christians to be focused
The Bishop of Diocese of Lagos West, Church of Nigeria, (Anglican Communion), Rt. Revd. Dr. James Odedeji, has urged Christians to remain focused, never to give up and wait upon the Lord in prayer, praise and worship.
Odedeji, who stated this in his Easter message with the theme “Alleluia! Christ is risen” at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral, Ikeja, Lagos, at the weekend, noted that much as the enemies of Jesus Christ tried to rubbish the fact that he rose, the overwhelming evidence remains indisputable to the reasoning and the discerning.
He said that an empty grave is there to prove that Jesus Christ lives, saying: “His is the only empty tomb all over the world. It is indeed disheartening to notice that those disciples of Jesus Christ, who were with him for over three years in spite of the various parables he tried to interpret to them in secret, never remembered nor discerned that he was meant to rise the third day. The enemies on their part did not forget this testament of Jesus Christ and they decoded the meaning which of course explains why they did not only block the tomb with a big stone, but equally set soldiers to watch the tomb and ensure that His prediction of rising never came to pass.”
According to him, the evidence of Christ’s resurrection are the empty tomb, the testimony of the angels, people who talked to him after the resurrection, the 500 people who saw him at one time, His appearance to Stephen at his martyrdom, His appearance to Paul on Damascus Road, the testimony of millions who have proved him to be a living saviour and many infallible proof.
