FORMER Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has expressed optimism that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will win convincingly this year’s governorship election in the state come April 11.

FORMER Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has expressed optimism that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will win convincingly this year’s governorship election in the state come April 11.

Daniel, who spoke at the fund-raising dinner organised by friends and colleagues of the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State, Mr. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja, Lagos, said people have seen the difference between the PDP government and that of the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC), which he said, has under-performed.

The former governor, who reeled out many achievements of his administration, said the state would have turned to Eldorado if the government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun had continued with the sound economic policies and blueprint he bequeathed to the state, but regretted that the government lacks the capacity to pursue developmental projects.

He said: “Though APC did not win the 2011 election but the internal crisis in the PDP at that time gave victory to APC and this is the time to correct the mistakes of the past. But the good thing is that the qualities and leadership potentials we saw in Isiaka in 2011 when he won the PDP primaries that were truncated, others have now seen it. I have no doubt that Isiaka has the capacity and tenacity of purpose to govern Ogun State better than what people are experiencing now. Isiaka was one of the most valuable people in our administration. He brought capacity and fresher ideas into government. In fact, he is the best man for the job.

“We have seen the best of Amosun’s government and the much talked about flyover he constructed and we know the motive behind it. It is unfortunate that people now flaunt flyover as an achievement; flyover is a disaster, we use it to solve traffic disasters and when there are no traffic disasters, why putting flyovers. Though somebody called flyover a burial ground where you don’t have capacity to unearth what is beneath, but I can assure you, quantity surveyors know and we engineers know and we shall unearth the “burial ground”. It is a scientific process and we shall unearth what is buried there. And people will soon know that there is nowhere to hide.

Also speaking at the event, Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Jumoke Akinjide, said the time has come for the party to take over the South-West and expressed confidence in Isiaka’s ability to transform the state.

The minister, who said President Goodluck Jonathan has done much to deserve second term, said Nigeria would be on steady path of development if the people allow the President to continue his good work.

For the former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Ogun State will benefit more from the intelligence and experience of Isiaka who he described as a “problem solver”.

Obanikoro said he had no doubt that Isiaka will win the election and join hands with President Jonathan to transform the country.
