Don blames SON for substandard construction materials
Following the prevalence of building collapse in various parts of the federation owing to quality of materials, a university don has blamed the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) for the influx of substandard construction materials in the country.
According to him, SON is responsible for the menace because materials imported into the country are not regulated; hence they are not living up to their responsibilities.
Olumide Adenuga who disclosed this to The Guardian during his Inaugural lecture titled, “Maintenance Management: a Posteriori Culture in Nigeria- The quest for Economic Sustainability,” at the University of Lagos, noted that SON has failed to take care of those investments coming in country, as well as the choice of material they accept.
He said government has remained reactive instead of being proactive to the issue of practice of maintenance management and that has reflected on the economy.
He charged government to ensure that appropriate action is taken because they know what to do and the right channels as per laws and regulations.
