DSS rescues kidnapped oil workers, allegedly kills suspects in Rivers

The Department of State Services (DSS) said their operatives, yesterday, rescued four kidnapped oil workers in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, arrested one and killed three of the suspects in the course of the rescue operation.

The Department of State Services (DSS) said their operatives, yesterday, rescued four kidnapped oil workers in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, arrested one and killed three of the suspects in the course of the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, the Service also said it arrested one suspected member of the Boko Haram sect in Kaduna, who fled the military offensive in the Northeast, where he was planning to attack the railway and other targets in the state.

A statement issued yesterday by the Service spokesman, Tony Opiuyo, said the kidnap gang, led by one Emmanuel Eyo, was arrested during a joint operation with the military in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

“During the rescue operation, supported by the military, an official of the Service sustained gunshot injuries in his leg, while three members of the gang were killed in the exchange of fire.”

The kidnapped oil workers were said to have been rescued from their abductors at White House Estate, Rumukwurushi, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The statement explained that the suspected Boko Haram member, Alkasim Salisu, was arrested at Rigasa area of Igabi LGA of Kaduna State.

The statement also said a fraudster, posing as the Director General (DG) of the Service was arrested in Ojo, Lagos State. The suspect had opened a Facebook account in the name of the DG, to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
