Enugu DISCO to supply customers with prepaid meters
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has concluded plans to supply prepaid meters to its customers in South-East zone to end estimated billing, the Communications Manager of the company, Mr. Emeka Eze told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu yesterday.
Eze said the distribution company (DISCO) had enough meters for its customers and would soon commence installation of the meters to customers that applied for them.
He said that it was the desire of the company to provide prepaid meters to its customers to end estimated billings and complaints of over billing.
Eze who said the company had already commenced pilot testing of the meters to ascertain their workability before giving them out to customers added that EEDC was doing everything possible to check sharp practices by those who might want to bypass the meter and connect electricity directly from source.
“The meters will be installed on electric poles and they will be monitored to ensure that there is no bypass and tampering,’’ he said.
He also said customers would pay for the meters in installments, for a period of 36 months from installation through in built mechanism.
According to Eze, in the meantime, customers could contest their bill if they felt it was higher than what they consumed.
“Customers can approach the customer care unit of the organisation to contest their bills and when they are not satisfied, they can approach the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for redress.’’
He advised that law-abiding citizens should report unscrupulous people tampering with electricity equipment in their areas to the appropriate authorities.
