Enyimba moves on in CAF Champions League
Rivers United see off Ifeanyi Ubah, Wolves beaten in Jos
Nigeria league all-time highest goalscorer Mfon Udoh was Enyimba hero after his double propelled the team to the first round of CAF Champions League following a 2-0 home win over Vipers SC in Port Harcourt yesterday.
Enyimba thus progressed to next month’s first round fixture on a 2-1 aggregate.
Udoh, who netted a record 23 goals two seasons ago, opened the scoring in the 32nd minute courtesy of a spot kick after Vipers Wada Da Wakino pulled Batholomew Ibenegbu down in the box.
Udoh scored the winner in the 61st minute when he tapped in with a back heel.
Joseph Osadiaye’s free kick in the 13th minute was saved by Vipers goalkeeper James Alitho.
Osadiaye was denied by the goalkeeper in the 36th minute.
Enyimba substitute Ugo Leonard was then denied twice by the goalkeeper from Uganda.
Meanwhile in the domestic league, Rivers United defeated Ifeanyi Ubah 2-0 in Port Harcourt yesterday in a Week 3 game of the NPFL, just as Plateau United handed a 2-1 to visiting Warri Wolves in Jos.
Rivers United now have six points from three games, while IfeanyiUbah have three points from two games.
Chigozie Ihuda opened the goal scoring in the 45th minute to end the first half 1-0.
Fredrick Obomate doubled the hosts’ lead in the 56th minute when he headed in Wilson Andoh’s cross.
