Tricycle Operators Ground OwerriTRAGEDY struck again in Umuapu, Ohaji/ Egbema Local Council of Imo State in the early hours of yesterday when a fully-loaded fuel tanker said to have lifted fuel from Port Harcourt, Rivers State to Imo State upturned, emptying the product in the vicinity.

But as at the time of filing this report, there were no reported cases of loss of live, but some yet-to-be identified persons were said to have been injured.

The Guardian gathered that the arrival of many fire-fighters and heavy security presence at the scene, prevented villagers and others from attempting to scoop fuel from the tanker. People who had no business to rescue the tanker were prevented from intruding at the scene.

Also, there was prompt dispatch and arrival of another tanker which was used to evacuate the remaining fuel from the fallen tanker.

The Guardian had reported a similar incident which happened in that area which some say, was largely caused by the bad portion of the Port Harcourt -Owerri Road.

An official of the Imo State Fire Service, who spoke with The Guardian, said they were working hard to evacuate the product safely.
“We are working very hard to ensure that we evacuate the product safely.”
