Tragedy struck on Saturday evening at Atican Beach, Ajah Lagos State when two fun-seekers were swept away by the boisterous waves before one was rescued unconscious by the divers.

The victim, a young man simply identified as Sylvester, had plunged into the lagoon to rescue a friend. They were both part of a group of youths from a church (name withheld), who had visited the beach for picnic. In the attempt to rescue the girl, the waves carried both of them further into the sea.

It took the intervention of professional divers to bring out the girl unconscious. Sylvester was swept away by the unending waves. His body was yet to be washed ashore as at press time.

After rescuing the girl, she was revived 30 minutes later when an emergency oral resuscitation was performed on her before she was rushed to a nearby hospital to recover fully.
