Government warns against indiscriminate disposal of wastes

Lagos State Government on Saturday warned the residents of the state against building structures on the drains and indiscriminate disposal of wastes.

Mr Babatunde Hunpe, the Special Adviser to Gov. Akinwumi Ambode on Environment, gave the warning during the monthly environmental sanitation in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area of the state.

He also warned those who built structures on the drainage channels to remove them immediately, promising that drains in the area would be re-channeled for free flow of water.

According to him, the technical team of the ministry will visit the areas again on August 29 to look at all the black spots to begin operation.

Hunpe said that environmental health inspectors would also be deployed to monitor the area and prevent residents from dumping wastes into the drains.

Also, the Sole Administrator of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Mr Adekunle Julius, said that a monitoring team had been established to ensure compliance with the sanitation laws in the area.

According to him, the council will work together with the state government to ensure proper a neat and safe environment in the area.
