Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, yesterday, increased the salaries of civil servants in the state by five percent, recalled sacked workers and lifted embargo previously imposed on promotion.

The governor also disclosed that N200, 000 has been set aside as agricultural loan for each civil servant that meets requirement for accessing the loan, explaining that the palliatives were to cushion the effect of economic recession in the country.

He explained that 46 inmates of Abakaliki, Afikpo and Enugu Federal prisons for various crimes in the state, were regaining their freedom in the exercise of his constitutional powers.

Under the governor’s amnesty, 14 inmates on death roll were commuted to life imprisonment, while 32 others serving various jail terms were released unconditionally.

He called on Nigerians to reflect on the “56 years of freedom,” noting that Nigeria would achieve more greatness when less emphasis is placed on ethnicity and home grown technology is encouraged.
