Govt to create commercial units in MDAs to drive revenue
Federal Government revenue drive has been taken a step further as it plans to create commercial revenue units in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to help in generating extra funds for government operations.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita disclosed this yesterday in Abuja, when she received the report of an 8-man Technical Committee on enterprise culture and commercial orientation in the Federal Civil Service.
The units, which are expected to collaborate with the Public Private Partnership (PPP), would see the MDAs looking inwards by charging little fees in some of the services they renders to the public.
A statement from the office of the HOS also quoted Oyo-Ita, as saying that the plan is expected to move the services from a cost centre to a revenue generating organ, where the potentials of all revenue outfits in the MDAs would be fully utilised.
The statement added that the units would also provide opportunity for career progression in the civil service.
Earlier, Chairman of the 8-man Technical Committee Hajiya Nuratu Batagarawa, who was represented by the Director of performance management, Ayodele Folayan, said the committee adopted the global approach and best practices in arriving at its recommendations.
