Femi Gbajabiamila, the Majority Leader in the House of Representatives

Socio-political groups under the aegis of Surulere Unite have kicked against the fifth term agenda of the House of Representatives Majority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila. The group which comprises Free Surulere Movement, Not Too Young to Run, Committee of Friends, JAMCO, Agbekoya and Save Surulere Movement said the 16 years of the Majority leader’s administration is enough, as 20 years would be too much for one man from a single ward.

The groups said, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) card carrier members, representing residents of Surulere, they are ‘tired and sick’ of Gbajabiamila’s administration as there has never been legislative and structural development in the constituency.

Addressing the press in Lagos, the chairman of Free Surulere Movement, Waheed Azeez said 16 years sojourn in the House of Representatives has been fruitless in pursuit of the primary assignment and mandate “we bestowed on him as a legislator. Sad and sickening, no single motion of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila has been passed into law.

He continued: “We are saying no to the fifth term agenda of Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, we don’t want it. He has done little or close to nothing with his position as the majority leader of the Lower chamber and Surulerians are fed up of his excesses. We see a vote for his candidature as a vote for injustice, oppression, political slavery, uneven representation and a looming danger to lose the House of Representatives position to Opposition. We don’t want to lose our God given opportunity to opposition by adopting or imposing the choice of Gbajabiamila for fifth term.

“We have so many educated and intelligent people and above all Surulere is a civilized environment. On this ground, we want to appeal to our party leaders to organized a fair play ground where all aspirant will be given opportunity to exercise their franchise during primaries.

The representative of Not Too Young to Run, Comrade Ambali Abayomi, however, urged residents of Surulere to disregard rumours that the national and state leaders have endorsed Gbajabiamila, “We are appealing to residents of Surulere and Nigeria as a whole to go and get their permanent voters card and be ready for election.

“We call on the respected office of Inspector General of Police, our party leaders both at state and national level to come to our aid, We call on our amiable Governor and Lagos State commissioner of police to beam the search lights on Surulere and activities organized by Hon Gbajabiamila.Free carrying of weapons and arms by unauthorised personnel, as well as touts and cultists, who brandish guns and weapons at all political functions should be probed, he stressed.
