Herdsmen kill varsity staff member
An employee with the information communications technology (ICT) department of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Mr. Isaac Egbunu, has been killed by herdsmen.
The late varsity worker, according to an eyewitness, was ambushed and killed in a broad day light while being from Abuja in a nearby village near Kadarko town in Nasarawa State. His driver was however wounded.
The Eyewitness, who preferred anonymity, said the nomads had devised another strategy by opening fire at vehicles plying the Lafia-Makurdi highway even during the day.
He said security checkpoints on the route have become scanty in the wake of the killings, as the herdsmen now displace Tiv communities in the southern senatorial zone and openly oppose the anti-grazing law in Benue state.
The strategic highway connects the South East to the North.
“Passengers heading to Abuja or any part of the North from the South South and South East regions should be security conscious when leaving the border villages of Benue and Nasarawa states,” he cautioned.
With the new development, it was learnt that commuters plying the route have become apprehensive, urging that something urgent should be done to check the prevailing insecurity in both states.
