No fewer than 925 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have shown interest in the chairmanship and councillorship positions for the scheduled July 14 Local Government elections in the state, purchasing nomination forms.

The Okorocha led-acting factional chairman of the party, Chris Oguoma, disclosed yesterday that 105 are vying for chairmanship and 820 for councillorship seats.

While there are 27 Local Councils in the state, there are 305 INEC wards in the state. Okorocha, addressing the aspirants, assured them of a level playing ground in the election and urged them to be law abiding.

As at yesterday when the faction closed purchase of forms preparatory to its primaries on June 12, the faction of the National Executive Council of the party chaired in the state by Hilary Eke, is yet to be heard from, and it is unclear if they would participate or not.

Publicity Secretary of the Eke-led executive, Nwabueze Oguchienti, had issued a statement warning party members not to participate in the purchase of the forms sold by Oguoma’s group.

Meanwhile, the main opposition party in the state, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), in an interview with the state Publicity Secretary, Damian Opara, said the party has no confidence on the ability of the Okorocha-led administration to conduct the poll, accusing the governor of failing many times in the past to conduct such election.

Meanwhile, the governor yesterday inaugurated a newly elected state executive of the Imo Traditional Rulers Council.
