Imo State yesterday recorded its first rain of the year, which destroyed many property. Owerri, the capital city, had many streets, such as Wethdral, Douglas, Okigwe Road, flooded with water.

It resulted in human and vehicular traffic. As a result, many commuters could not find easy access to their destinations, while commercial vehicles made brisk profits from the stranded commuters. Drainages that were filled with filth poured its debris on the roads.

One of the residents, Okey Igwe, told The Guardian that they could not easily move because of the heavy rain. “We passed through hell today. The refuse from the gutters which found its way into the streets was an eyesore, which must be addressed to avert disaster in the coming months.”

As at time of filing this report, no government official had gone round to assess the level of damage, despite many homes, offices and public institutions destroyed by the wind and downpour. The newly constructed Okigwe Road Roundabout, Owerri, was also not spared from the massive flood.
