Isiaka, Amosun trade words over allegation of intolerance
THE governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Mr. Nasir Gboyega Isiaka, yesterday accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and its governorship candidate, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, of running a “regime of brutality”.
Isiaka, who spoke at a press conference in Abeokuta, also accused Amosun of political intolerance, alleging that APC political thugs have on several occasions attacked PDP supporters on campaign rally.
Also, the PDP candidate alleged that Governor Amosun has ordered that queries should be issued to civil servants who are perceived to be symphatisers of the PDP and that APC supporters had allegedly removed nothing less than 40 PDP billboards located at different locations in the state.
But the Media Director of Governor Amosun’s Campaign Organisation, Mr. Femi Sowolu, has described the allegations as “the usual fabrications of the PDP.”
Reacting to the allegations, Sowolu told The Guardian on phone: “All the allegations are their (PDP) usual fabrications. Every week, apparently out of desperation, they come out with one fabrication or the other because that is their stock in trade.
“They (PDP) are confused and have lost focus.”
Isiaka had stated: “All the aforementioned are just a few instances of the “regime of brutality” that Amosun and the APC have subjected the PDP to in the last two months. As the elections draw near, these people are becoming desperate, sensing how they have become unpopular. They have sensed defeat and resorted to highhandedness and political brigandage.
“We have been inundated with several queries being issued to workers for not being around their offices and concluding that they must have been at PDP events; whereas, we know that it is Amosun that has co-opted top civil servants into his rallies and even forcing them to speak at such campaign grounds.”
Isiaka further said: “At the last count, over forty (40) standing
billboards of our candidates have either been destroyed or stolen. In many other locations, the teams installing our boards and posters have been brutalised. Also yesterday, Governor Amosun who had nothing to do around the Ogbe area in Abeokuta but passing through Totoro road made a detour and intentionally went through the road where Dr. Bisola Sodipo Clark was having her campaign. He ordered thugs in his convoy to beat up the people and scatter the event. This was an order they carried out effectively leaving trails of blood.
“I urge my supporters and the good people of Ogun State not to be intimidated by the antics of the Amosun-led APC government that is on its way out of office. Having made life difficult for the masses, demolishing their livelihoods and pilfering their commonwealth via dubious road projects, these intimidations are the last card they have.”
Asked to react to the allegations one by one, Sowolu simply said: “I don’t need to because every week they come out with one allegation or the other and I can’t continue repeating myself by reacting to such malicious allegations every week.”
“One thing I can tell you is that Governor Amosun is too busy doing serious things so he has no time to engage in frivolities.”
