Eminent Igbo leaders, led by Constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, yesterday, warned of alleged plot to Islamise the country.

At the end of their meeting in Enugu, under the auspices of Igbo Leaders of Thought, they said actions and appointments made by President Buhari were indication the “Islamisation agenda is real.”

He said: “It’s not something somebody just conjured. It is there and it is being implemented gradually. Look at the security agencies; every aspect of security in Nigeria is controlled by Islamists. They are methodical in the way they are going about its implementation. Look at the menace of Fulani herdsmen; it is part of it. They have continued to keep quite, so as to provoke other Nigerians into carrying arms. That is what we are saying and the President knows it is true.”

Nwabueze added: “Our people must not play into their hands. All these agitations… I support the agitation. But define your objective. What do you want? Self-determination? Okay. That is the best thing. Use it as a cover. Don’t come out openly and say you are agitating because you want the Sovereign State of Biafra. Sovereign State of Biafra within a sovereign Nigeria? You have to be extremely careful.”

At the meeting were former governor of Anambra State, Chukwuemeka Ezeife; Senator Anyim Ude; former Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Prof. Elo Amucheazi; Archbishop Maxwell Anikwenwa (rtd); Chief Enechi Onyia; author, Prof. Chukwuemeka Ike; Prof. Chiweite Ejike; Prof. R.A.C.E Achara, and others.
