APEX Northern Islamic body, the Ja’amatu Islam Nasir (JNI) and Arewa chieftain, Mr. Anthony Sani have said that Nigerians should ensure that they join hands together in supporting the incoming government of retired General Muhammadu Buhari to succeed in eradicating the woes of the nation.

JNI Secretary General, Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu and former National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Sani, in separate statements in Kaduna said that while it was commendable that the APC Presidential Candidate, Buhari won the April 28, 2015 polls, it was time Nigerians think of ways to support the President-elect to succeed in the task ahead.
Besides, Dr. Aliyu specifically warned against the celebration of Buhari’s victory in the north, which has led several youths to their early graves.

He said: “despite all anxieties, worries and uncertainties, Nigerians patiently waited for the D-day and spoke with their votes, gently and peacefully, and thus made a landmark in Nigeria’s political-history. JNI therefore reiterates its call for peace and urge all and sundry to go about their lawful businesses and remain calm and law abiding”.

According to the JNI scribe, “this is a time for sober reflection, humility to Allah the exalted, gratitude and glorification to Him. The JNI therefore, wishes to advise that reckless and rough celebrations and indecorous utterances should be avoided by all Nigerians so that our gratitude and glorifications would be accepted by the Almighty”.
“ On the other hand, we congratulate and rejoice with the new President elect and strongly call on him to fear Allah (SWT) in his stewardship, and be just and fair to all Nigerians regardless of their tribes or religious affinity.”

“He should consider his victory as victory for Nigeria. The doggedness of the electoral umpire, its decorum, hard work and sacrifice is also commendable. Indeed all Nigerians should be grateful to Allah (SWT) for His clemency on our country for passing through the tough time of the Presidential Election”.

Besides, the ACF chieftain, Sani remarked that “the elections have come and gone, relatively free and fair and the results announced by INEC”, adding that “one can say reasonably that the large turn out of voters for voting was symbol of determination by Nigerians to make and unmake governments democratically”.
“And since the Nigerian voters have made their choice, all that is required now is for Nigerians to become a one people and support the government for performance, until next four years when there will be another round of elections”.

“As to the opposition party that has won the elections, there is no doubting the fact that APC has given voice to Nigerians that voters can make judicious use of their democratic rights and ensure that their votes count and produce leaders of their choice. That is how it should be and also a worthy development because just as president Jonathan is the first to concede victory in the history of democracy in Nigeria, APC is the first opposition party that became a viable alternative platform and has been able to unseat a sitting government.”

Sani continued: “This is note worthy because democracy without a viable opposition is a sham. We must give this feat to APC and its presidential candidate Buhari now the president elect. We therefore pray that the incoming government will make Nigerians experience sea change from insecurity, poverty, unemployment and corruption and live up its promises of providing order, justice, peace and prosperity to a diverse nation through ceaseless work by every Nigerian under the watchful eyes of the leadership.”
“It is against this backdrop that we appeal to all Nigerians to come together and support the government which is expected to be inclusive and magnanimous in victory, all in the larger interest of the nation,” he added.
