Justice Ademola, wife fail to appear in court
The arraignment of Justice Adeniyi Ademola and his wife, Olabowale, before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court could not hold yesterday as the pair were absent when the matter came up for hearing.
The couple are standing trial before Justice Jude Okeke on a 15-count charge of corruption to the tune of N248 million.
Counsel to the Federal Government, Segun Jegede, had told the court that the bailiff could not serve Ademola because he was in Lagos.
He added that the counsel to the defendants, J.C. Ajinkeonye had also accepted to receive the summons on behalf of his clients.
Ajinkeonye, thereafter, assured the court that his clients would be available at the next adjourned date.
After entertaining their pleas, Justice Okeke granted the request of the prosecuting counsel that Ademola be served through his counsel.
Subsequently, he adjourned to December 13, 2016 for further hearing in the suit.
Justice Ademola is one of the seven judges arrested on October 8 this year by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) on allegations of corruption.
