Kano electoral body contests suit seeking extension of council polls
The main opposition party is praying court to interpret the compulsory fees charged aspirants for intent forms regardless their credibility and eligibility for the polls.
At the hearing of the suit yesterday, presided over by Justice Nura Sagir, counsel to the PDP, Abdullahi Adamu Fagge, noted that his client wants the exercise stopped to enable it prepare adequately.
The counsel, who lamented the exorbitant cost of the form, challenged the electoral body on any laws authorising the charges.
KASIEC had fixed N250,000 and N150,000 non-refundable fees for chairmanship and councillorship candidates.
The defence counsel, Ibrahim Maicidi, in his preliminary objection, challenged the jurisdiction of the court to proceed with the hearing.
Although, the PDP lawyer did not object the new prayer, he, however, sought expeditious action.
In his ruling, Justice Sagir fixed February 2, 2018 for judgment.
