The Kwara Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Ayinke Saka has decried the high cases of rape in the state.According to her, about 1,000 cases are reported annually.

Saka stated this at the weekend during the takeoff of a campaign against rape in Ilorin, the state capital. She lamented that cases of septuagenarians allegedly raping minors dominate the statistics.

The campaign tagged, “Say no to rape,” organised by a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), SAAP Foundation was held in major streets in the town. The commissioner, who was represented by a director in the ministry, Hajia Bilikis Sidiq said: “From our records we have about 1,000 cases of rape every year with us. This is worrisome.

It is more rampant among men of 70 years and above who only God knows reasons they are in the habit of defiling girls as young as eight years old and even below.”She praised the Founder of the foundation, Miss Sa’adat Bibire for complementing the efforts of government.
