Lagos street fight: 4 suspected cult members face murder charge

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered the remand of four suspected cult members charged with the murder of two people during a street fight in Mushin.

The accused are Benjamin Wilson, 38; Jamiu Eniola, 34; Wale Odukoya, 25, and Taiwo Adewunmi, 27.

Wilson is a barber, while Eniola is a fashion designer and Adewunmi a tailor.

The four are being tried for unlawful killing, conspiracy, and belonging to a secret cult.

The Prosecutor, ASP Elizabeth Ekuma, told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 14 at 9.30 p.m. at Itire Road Junction, Mushin.

Ekuma said the accused shot dead one Femi Egbekunle, while a man, Saliu Maja, was also shot in the mouth.

“The accused left their base at Idi-Araba in Mushin and went to Pako Junction and started shooting sporadically killing two people in the process.’’

She noted that the offences contravened Sections 42 (a), 221 and 231 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The pleas of the accused were not taken.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, said the accused should be remanded at Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The case was adjourned till May 18.
