The Lagos State Government, yesterday, kicked off its new waste management initiative with the inauguration of 920 Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Brigades to Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC).

Speaking at the soft launch of the cleaner Lagos Initiative at the Agege Stadium and the inauguration of the corps, Governor Akinwumi Ambode said the transformed KAI brigade would assist in the enforcement of payment of the Public Utility Levy (PUL)

He stressed that sanitation is a priority to his administration as it is important for maintaining a secure and more prosperous state.

The governor further stated that the signing of the Environmental Management Protection Law in March 2017 was a precursor to the event and important for maintaining a secure and more prosperous state.

According to him, to roll back sanitation shortcomings and accelerate seamless cleaning of the environment, the Lagos mega city was in dire need of an enduring solution that would match the needed technology with the massive investment required for its attainment.

The CLI, the governor said has come to fill that void by creating an environment for the private sector to harness international best practices in the vital area of solid waste management and consequently free public funds for other beneficial uses.
