Multiple accidents claim 14 lives in Gombe

By Auwal Ahmad, Gombe   |   01 February 2017   |   2:57 am

A two-year-old girl and 13 others were said to have died in multiple accidents on federal highways between Gombe and Bauchi on Sunday and Monday.

Confirming the Gombe incident to newsmen yesterday, the state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. David Mendie, did not comment on the Bauchi road crash, which he said, was out of his jurisdiction.

He, however, warned motorists against over-speeding, which he said was largely the cause of the accident that occurred on Gombe-Kumo Road on Sunday where five persons died instantly after a Toyota saloon car veered off the road into the bush. He said only two persons survived.

He added that the other accident, which occurred on the same road involved a Vectra saloon car, which ran into an on-coming Mack brand of trailer while trying to overtake. The four occupants died instantly.
