THE National Directorate of Employment (NDE), in Imo State and Forward Africa (FOFA), a Non- Profit Development Organization (NPDO), have begun the processes of partnership programmes by drawing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to build capacity partnership programmes on skills acquisition for the youths in the state. This comprises sectors such as Agriculture, Health and Youth Development, to enhance the skills of youths in Imo State and beyond.

The youths are also expected to be trained in skills programmes, including self reliance tilted trades. The NDE began its operations sequel to its establishment in the country by the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida administration in 1986, with the mandate to tackle unemployment problems in the country.

This was disclosed at the weekend by both the new state coordinator of the employment agency, Mr. Dennis Unegbu and the Executive Director of FOFA, Dame Chibuzo Onuwa, when the two agencies met in an interactive session at the office of the NDE, Federal Secretariat Complex, Owerri.

Unegbu who expressed gladness for the interaction, noted that the partnership would build stronger synergy to improve the target of socio-economic index of Imo State, noting that the briefing he had on FOFA indicated that it has the capacity of improving Imo and beyond in areas listed above.

Explaining earlier, Oriuwa said the organization she superintends had sustained partnership programmes in government ministries in the South –East geo political zone of the country, which has impacted positively, pointing out that the inclusion of an official of NDE, Mrs. Ego Agbogu, to represent the agency, in Integrated Young Peoples Development Action Plan (IYPDAP) from 2012 till date, as targeted in improving the health and development needs of the young people in the state, has yielded appreciable results.

Also speaking, the Programme Manager of FOFA, Mr. Ikedinachi Ogamba, said the programmes of the body help in developing talents and maximizing the skills for earning a living and status elevation in society.
