NEMSA stops JEDC from installing smart meters
The Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has stopped the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) from further installing untested smart meters.
This followed the complaints and petitions by the residents of the area.
While inspecting some of the facilities in Jos yesterday, NEMSA’S Managing Director, Peter Ewesor, said they were in the city to investigate the allegations against JEDC.
Ewesor, who is also the Chief Electrical Inspector of the federation, also told the company not to install meters that have no seal of the required agency.
He disclosed that his investigation showed that the installed meters did not pass through the routine test to check their quality and ascertain their suitability in the country.
“The meters will be taken to our test station for a routine check. The JEDC is aware that the procedures must be followed quickly, so that we could do their on-site calibration to satisfy the requirements.
