NHIS to Re-admit Customs

The Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Professor Usman Yusuf has said that the Scheme is working out modalities to re-absorb and provide healthcare coverage to officers and men of the Nigerian Customs Service.

He stated this while hosting the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Col. Hammed Ali and his management team in Abuja.
yusuf observed that the move to bring back on board the Nigerian Customs Service, is in line with his mandate to ensure that every Nigerian is enrolled in to the system. Adding that to achieve the noble goal of Universal Health Coverage for all Nigerians irrespective of their social and economic status, everyone must come on board.

Professor Yusuf said the hiccup that led to the delisting of the Nigerian Customs Service from the enrollee base of NHIS is currently being resolved.

In his response, the Comptroller General, Nigerian Customs Service Col. Hammed Ali, averred that since the establishment of NHIS, Federal Government has been responsible for the payment of contributions for the Military and Para Military
organizations as provided by the NHIS 2012 operational guideline for Armed Forces, Police, and other Uniformed Services (Customs inclusive).

He stated that the purpose of his visit is to synergies with NHIS management and seek for their assistance in order to resolve the issue and kick start the provision of healthcare services to the teaming staff of Nigerian Customs and their families
