THE Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Jimi Agbaje, on Friday promised to return illegally acquired lands to their owners, if elected.

Agbaje made the promise at a town hall meeting with the people of Ibeju Lekki at the Eleko Beach Hall, on Lagos Island.

He also promised to pay adequate compensation to those whose lands were acquired for government projects but were not well compensated.

“Some of the lands acquired were turned into private property of some officials including the ones designated as cemetery.

“Some of these lands were acquired in the guise of using them for industrialisation but ended up as private estates,” he alleged.

The PDP candidate also said that he would take advantage of the aquatic nature of the area to improve the economy of Lagos State.

“This will translate to an ocean economy that transforms the lives of the indigenes,” he said.

Agbaje also pledged to create standard markets in the area to reduce the suffering of the people who, he said, had to travel some distance to access modern markets.

He said that it was wrong for elected government officials to fail to fulfill their promises to the electorate.

Also speaking, a former Minister for Cooperation and Integration in Africa, Chief Abimbola Ogunkelu, appealed to the people to vote massively for PDP.

The former minister promised that PDP government in the state would address the problems of the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a former Special Assistant on Ecology to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Bode Oyedele, and some PDP candidates also attended the meeting. (NAN)
