Ambode-rally

CHAIRMAN of the Support Group For Ambode 2015 (SGFA), former Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Demola Seriki, Wednesday led hundreds of the All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters at the flag-off of the roadshow to solicit support for the party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, which was tagged the Consolidator Roadshow.

With a 40-vehicle convoy of jubilant members canvassing residents along 21 major streets of Ikeja, the Support Group opened a new flank in the struggle to make the APC governorship cnadidate win the April 11 polls by flagging off a 20-day Roadshow in the state.

The roadshow took off from Adeniyi-Jones passing through roads such as Surulere Industrial, Acme, Metal Box, Wempco, Jagun, Ogunnusi, Lateef Jakande to Obafemi Awolowo, stopping at the retail markets at Ogba, Ojodu, Alade and mechanic villages on Lateef Jakande and Oregun roads to pay homage to the shop owners and fraternise with their leaders.

The members got off the vehicles to distribute fliers and gifts as crowd of residents scrambled for the gifts and joined in the dancing and singing that marked the occassion.

While saluting the party’s leadership in Lagos State for the gargantuan campaign machinery they have deployed in selling the APC candidate and manifesto to the voters through ongoing rallies and town hall meetings, coupled with the candidate’s herculean efforts in engaging the voters and interacting with the people, Seriki said the support group’s intention is to reach out to the grassroots with a roadshow thrice a week, to touch areas where the party’s campaign may not have been able to reach.

“We are going to the field to harvest voters for the party’s candidate from the over six million registered voters in Lagos as no one campaign train can do it all. We believe more hands must be on deck to repel the forces of retrogression symbolized by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which seeks to hoodwink Lagosians and lure them out of their comfort zone to a future whose possibilities is today represented by the rudderless leadership provided at the federal level.

“This Consolidator Road show takes the facts and figures, the promise of the Ambode leadership, the legacy of the APC in Lagos State to the streets. It is a mission of reminder and recall.

“We believe that with this engagement, we shall wipe away the lies of the PDP with the brooms of truth and restore honesty where the PDP has sowed dishonesty,” he said.

The SGFA is a collaborative endeavour of all aspirants, who contested for the governorship ticket of the APC in Lagos and they include Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Dr. Tola Kasali, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Mr. Supo Sasore, Dr. Leke Pitan, among others.

Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi chairs the SGFA Board of Trustees.

Seriki said: “All Lagosians need to do is to ask each other if they will like to be governed by a party that has failed to deliver on the most critical duty of the government, which is security. If the APC administration of Lagos State had left the state to the security policies of the presidency, life would have become difficult for Lagosians.

“Through the Lagos State Security Fund and direct government assistance, Governor Babatunde Fashola has committed billions of Naira to keep the lives and property of Lagosians safe. Without these measures, the boom in the hotels and hospitality business, which provides the habitat for arts, music and leisure, would have collapsed.

“This is what Ambode seeks to consolidate, a Lagos safe for all. But with the disinformation and misinformation of ‘the PDP, it is possible for the voters to take these achievements for granted and be shortchanged.”
