RESIDENTS of Mushin Local Government have been urged to partner and support government’s policies if the dream of actualizing the mega city status of Lagos is to be realised. The call was made at the weekend by the Executive Secretary of Mushin, Mr. Babajide Bello, during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise held at Idi-Oro area of Mushin.

He said residents must be committed to making their environment clean, which includes constant clearing of the drains, avoid dropping of refuse inside the canals, resist cutting of roads without official approval, saying no to indiscriminate parking of vehicles on the roads and avoid parking unserviceable vehicles on major roads.

He appealed to the residents to embrace the sanitation exercise as a norm, such that whenever the state government cancels the monthly exercise, residents should still see it as a duty to come out and clean the streets.

“The people should embrace the sanitation exercise to the extent that residents come out to participate voluntarily,” he said.

He promised to liaise with relevant state government agencies with a view to expanding the channelization of the drains at Alamutu main canal.

The sanitation team visited Martins street, Labinjo, Onifade, Akodu, Ogungbaye, Cardoso and Masewele community.

He used the opportunity to charge leaders of Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the area to educate residents on the need to cooperate with contractors when projects are to be sited in their communities rather than demand compensation before work can commence.
