•Says Nigeria needs God-fearing leaders

THE Vice Presidential candidate of All- Progressive Congress (APC), Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday said one of the bane to developments and growth in Nigeria, was that the country needed to raise men with integrity and fear of God to coordinate its affairs, both at state and federal levels.

The APC presidential running mate made the disclosure while delivering his speech as the Guest Speaker at the yearly lecture series organised to mark the 73rd birthday of the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye in Lagos.

According to him, “Pastor Adeboye represents integrity and fear of God and Nigeria will need such people to coordinate its affairs, if we must grow and achieve what the Lord has ordained us to achieve as a nation.”

Osinbajo, who is also a Senior Pastor of RCCG, said part of the many challenges confronting Nigeria today was the problem of stealing national property by some individuals who were after inordinate wealth.

He specifically mentioned oil theft and corruption, which the country must tackle.

According to him: “It is revealed that the amount of crude oil being stolen from Nigeria on daily basis far outweighs what Ghana as an oil-producing nation, generate in a day.

“In our society, we have certain challenges. Corruption- described by Hillary Clinton as unbelievable. Missing Funds-NNPC Petroleum subsidy scam N2.6 trillion, kerosene subsidy scam- $7 billion.

“Missing excess crude amounts $1billion, 400, 000 barrel of oil stolen everyday. This is more than what Ghana still struggles to produce as a nation. Since becoming an oil- producing country, Ghana produces 120,000 barrel per day.”

He also Osinbajo lamented some ugly statistic he said had become part of Nigerian history in recent years.

“Challenges such as poverty is what we face today in Nigeria. Today, over 112 million Nigerians are categorised as extremely poor despite being the largest economy in Africa. In fact, we are one of 33 poorest countries in the world,” he said.

To surmount the challenges, Osinbajo said Nigeria needs a personality that has integrity because integrity is at the centre of everything we do.

“Today, everybody is looking for an honest man. Even a thief is looking forward to someone of integrity to keep his stolen money.”

While he prayed that God should grant Pastor Adeboye more years and wisdom, he urged Nigerians to continue in prayers as we approach the elections.

In his response, Pastor Adeboye said the secret of his success in life was his resolve to accept and follow Jesus Christ. “Jesus is the only that promotes,” he said.

According to him:  “Whatever I am today is because of only one secret. Somewhere along the line, I met Jesus Christ and I surrendered my life to him.

“So my advice to anyone who might be here who wants to reach the top and become an influence on the society and the world is, “give your life to Jesus Christ. That is the only secret. There is no other secret.”

He said: “Nobody is capable of sustaining anybody in position of influence,” adding: “If men are the ones promoting you, very soon, they get tired of promoting you and they will begin to run you down.”
