THE Ogun State Police Command has arrested a three-man robbery gang made up of Fulani herdsmen in Abeokuta area of the state. The robbers, Haruna Ibrahim, Usman Burani and Haruna Usman, had a few days ago robbed some residents of Atoba Estate in Sabo, Abeokuta at gunpoint.

The command, in a statement signed by the command spokesman, Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi (DSP) made available to journalists, said the arrest was made possible with the help of members of the community who had been monitoring the activities of the suspected armed robbers in the area.

According to the statement: “Members of the community sighted the robbers while moving their herd of cattle around for grazing near the area and identified them as the armed robbers who had robbed them of their belongings.

“The community leaders quickly contacted the police and the suspected robbers were arrested”, the statement disclosed.

“The robbers later led a team of police officers to their hide out in a bush called “Igbo Olodumare” along Igboora Road, Ogun State, where two Fulani herdsmen were also arrested,” the statement said.

The police recovered guns with cartridges, cutlasses, expended cartridges, assorted charms, dummy guns among others from the robbers.

According to the statement: “The robbers had been alleged of terrorising the people of the area and commuters along Igboora and Ayetoro roads in the state before their arrest.”

The acting Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Haliru Gwandu (DCP) has directed that the case be immediately transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran for further investigation.

He assured the people of the state of adequate protection of lives and property, saying: “The command will not relent in its efforts to achieve effective policing of the state”.

Gwandu also advised members of public to always alert the police and other security agencies around them whenever some individuals or groups are suspected, as this would bring to the knowledge of security operatives for necessary action.
