Robbers wreak havoc on Lagos road, injure 12

The robbers, using motorcycles numbering eight had a field day in over an hour that the operation lasted.

It was learnt that the robbers who were using the sophisticated AK-47 raffle had first stopped a vehicle occupied by businessman who was said to be coming from Tin Can Island Port for transaction.

He was ordered to surrender his briefcase containing about N1 million and subsequently moved to another vehicle occupied by a woman who was also robbed of all her valuable. After successful operation the robbers began shooting and in the process many pedestrians were injured and two was in comma.

The robbery attack came barely a week after anti-robbery police team from Apapa Division dislodged another gang of robbers, killing three of them during gun duel.

The robbers were said to have attacked a businessman who was trailed from one of the branches of a new generation bank after making a withdrawal of about N800,000.

His driver was said his boss was shot inside his Sport Utility Van (SUV).

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo had deployed more team of anti-robbery squad to step up security across the metropolis as the Christmas season draws closer.

The security arrangement is in line with the influx of persons coming into the state to transact one business or the other during the season.

Aside the security arrangement, the police anti- kidnap squad are currently in Lagos to check any possible plot targeted at wealthy individuals who might be preparing to travel during the season.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ogbonna Onovo had already ordered all Assistants Inspector General of Police (AIG’s) and the 36 state Commissioners of Police to maintain their domain and put a stop to any form of kidnapping.

The IG’s directive yielded positive result recently when some suspected kidnappers were arrested in their hideouts in one of the Eastern states after the police got a tip-off on the activities of the gang.

It was gathered that no fewer than 70 suspected kidnappers are now cooling off at the Force Headquarters as a result of the combined efforts of the entire police command to rid the country of kidnappers and armed bandits.
