Woman in court over alleged murder of boyfriend

A 40-year- old business woman, Christiana Owulo, was on Thursday arraigned in a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for allegedly killing her boyfriend, Ladoga Onah.

Owulo was charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide, punishable under Sections 97 and 225 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue, 2004.

The prosecutor, Insp. Terzungwe Kajo, told the court that the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Oju, on Aug. 28, 2015 to the CID, Makurdi, via a letter.

According to the letter, the deceased’s brother, Johnson Onah, reported the matter at the Oju Police Station on Aug. 20, 2015.

The complainant told the police that his 30-year -old brother was murdered by unknown persons.

He explained that they found his brother’s corpse at the Oju market square.

The prosecution explained that the accused was a girlfriend of the deceased.
The accused also slept in the same room with the deceased the day he was killed, and was arrested in connection with the crime, while other suspects were still at large.

When the case came up for mention, the accused did not take any plea as the court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

The Magistrate, Mrs Lillian Tsumba ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Makurdi and adjourned the

matter till Oct. 8, for further mention.
