DELTA State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has declared Friday, March 6, 2015, a work-free day for people to go and collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs), saying only 1.8 million people out of the over 2.2 million registered voters in the state have collected their PVCs.

Uduaghan, who spoke yesterday in Asaba during an enlightenment campaign on the use of the card reader, said that 405,000 PVCs are yet to be collected going by figures released by the State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Aniedi Asi Ikoiwak.

The governor said the declaration of a public holiday was imperative, as it would provide an opportunity for the people who are yet to collect their cards to do so before it closes on Sunday, March 8.

He said: “Our people are worried about the PVCs. We are happy that INEC is going round to win the confidence of the voters. We will go round to see if we can convince our people but a lot still has to be done to convince our people.”
