EKITI State Governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has warned Nigerians to beware of what he called “the banana peel” being thrown on their path by former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the nation prepares for next month’s presidential election.

However, former Governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, doubted the capability of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to provide good governance to Nigerians if re-elected.

Meanwhile, the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO) has expressed concern that since the collapse of the ‘phantom’ ceasefire with the Boko Haram terrorists, the Goodluck Jonathan administration has not briefed the nation on this development, pretending that time would automatically make the citizens forget the issue.

Fayose, who said the North deserved to present a better candidate among the myriad of brilliant and intellectuals they have and not “old horse” like the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, General Mohammadu Buhari whose state of health is a concern to all Nigerians.

In a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, Fayose said Nigerians should be wary of the former President’s intention regarding who should be elected President during the election.

According to Fayose, Obasanjo should also be watched for his romance with some leaders in the APC despite claiming to be a leader of the PDP.

“Nigerians should be wary of Obasanjo’s banana peel. He was the one who put forward Umar Yar ‘Adua as the President knowing his state of health and the man died in office. He was the one who said President Goodluck Jonathan was the best for Nigeria and that without him there would be no Nigeria.

“The question people should ask former President Obasanjo is what has gone wrong between now and then? He is against President Jonahan because the President refused to be pocketed by him, and any Nigerian leader who wants to succeed will not allow that.

“Obasanjo is now presenting Buhari as the best candidate for Nigeria knowing the man’s age and that the pressure of office would be too much for him,” he said.

He admonished Nigerians not to trust Obasanjo in his latest escapade.

Using a slump in the value of naira in the international market as his yardstick, Saraki a chieftain of the APC said at the flag off of campaign of the APC in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, that Nigeria’s economy would totally collapse if left in the hands of the PDP in the next four years.

According to him, “when naira was N50 against 1 dollar the party could not fix the economy. So is it now that the value of naira has fallen in comparison with the values of currencies of countries like America, Britain and the rest that they want to fix the economy?”

He said, “PDP promised you power, it promised you job for the youth, it promised you security and electricity but today has the party delivered its promises? We are not sentimental as a party. We are looking for a right channel for Nigeria out of this messy situation. We stand for a better Nigeria. General Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed represent the much desired hope.”

A statement by the Directorate of Media and Publicity of APCPCO signed by Mallam Garba Shehu said that the Jonathan government got it wrong on the curious silence over the botched deal.

“A democratic government should be open and accountable to the people. Accountability is the dividing line between a dictatorship and a democratic government, but the Jonathan administration is acting as if it owes Nigerians no explanation over the failed ceasefire deal.

“For the sake of Nigerians who may have lost their recollection of this epic national scandal called a ‘ceasefire deal’ with Boko Haram, it is important to quote the government officials and remind them of the promises they made to free the Chibok girls under that phantom truce.”
